Visiting Dubai During Covid

 Dubai U.A.E.

Where is Dubai Located

Many people have seen pictures of Dubai, however, most don’t know exactly where it is. On a map of the middle east, you will see Saudi Arabia. The U.A.E. and Dubai are on the southeastern corner of Saudi Arabia.

The city itself feels like New York was dropped in the middle of the desert. On the taxi drive from the airport, I felt like I was riding on a freeway in Phoenix, Arizona.

What did I do in Dubai in April 2020?

First, I stayed at the Dusit Thani – Dubai hotel.

This is an excellent 5-star hotel located in the middle of Dubai. It was near the Burj Khalifa, and the Dubai Mall. I highly recommend it.

As far as sightseeing, many of the things were closed when I was there. But here are the top 6 things to do.

Burj Kahlifa Building

This is the iconic tallest building in the world located in Dubai. There are tours, exhibits, and an observation deck at the top (148) floor.

Unfortunately, the observation deck was closed when I went there.

Note: The Burj Kahlifa Building refunded my ticket price with no problem.

The Burj Kahlifa building is one of the most impressive buildings I’ve ever seen.

The photos in the video above were taken on the 125th floor at a restaurant called Atmosphere.

Dubai Mall

When I travel, I always check out the city’s best mall.

The Dubai Mall is the best mall in the world.

I have never seen a bigger mall in the world. When you are in The Dubai Mall, you will need about an hour to simply walk the whole mall.

Burj Al Arab

I did not go check out this hotel, but you should. It was closed when I was there.

Emirates Mall

This is a warning: this mall is not very good.

I went to this mall because it has the famous indoor ski slope in Dubai. Unfortunately, the mall itself makes you feel like it was built in the 80s and has not been updated since.

Additionally, this mall is about a 30-minute cab ride from the “center” of Dubai.

Note: A big problem with Dubai is that everything is so spread out.

JBR Beach

This is the biggest and most famous beach in Dubai. When I went out there, it was dead because of Covid. However, I can see how this could be really cool during normal times.

Palm Islands

These are the man-made islands that you will see on any promo of Dubai. I understand that the hotel Atlantis is out there. I didn’t see it because of Covid. But, I suggest you check it out.

Society in Dubai

English level

Everyone in Dubai speaks English.

Girls

I was there during Covid, so I did not see a lot of good-looking girls.

One thing I noticed was that there are no local girls. Everyone is from somewhere else.

Cost

Dubai is expensive. As a tourist, you will see money everywhere.

Nightlife

Zuma Dubai is a cool Japanese restaurant. It was a little dead in March 2020, but this is a very hip-cool restaurant in Dubai.

The Worst Thing About Dubai

The worst thing about Dubai is that everything is far apart.

Not only is it impossible to walk most places, but most places require a fifteen-minute cab ride.

The Most Interesting Thing About Dubai

In my week in Dubai, I found it very interesting that you see 5-star hotels, Ferraris, and Rolls Royce on one block. Then the next block over, the neighborhood looks like a village out in the country.

Summary

In fairness, traveling to Dubai at the beginning of Covid 19 was likely very different from normal. I think it’s a cool place to see, however, it’s a bit over-hyped.

Happy traveling!
