Hotel Khreshatyk in Kiev Review

I recommend the Hotel Khreshatyk if you’re looking for a hotel in Kiev, Ukraine.

Below are my thoughts from the perspective of a single American man.

To get specific information about the number of rooms (134), number of restaurants (2), etc, check out their website at www.hotel-khreshatyk.kiev.ua/en

Hotel Khreshatyk Review

I researched dozens of hotels in Kiev, Ukraine when I was planning my trip to Eastern Europe. I’m happy I decided on Hotel Kreshatyk because it was a great hotel.

Price:

Supposably Ukraine is a poor country, and I heard Ukrainians live off of $300 USD per month.

While that might be true outside of downtown Kiev, you’d never be able to tell that when you arrive in Kiev.

For example, there’s a street just of Kreshatyk street that looks like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California.

As a result, don’t make my mistake, and think you can come to Kiev and stay in a 5-star hotel for $30.00 a night.

Hotels in Kiev can easily cost more than $250.00 per night.

You can find hotels for $30 just like you can in any American city but just like in the States, you get what you pay for.

With that in mind, the best bang for the buck is Hotel Khreshatyk. I visited Kiev at the end of May in 2018, and paid $125.00 per night.

$125 is in the middle of hotel prices in May.

Tip: You could probably get a high-quality apartment on Airbnb for cheaper but I wanted everything taken care of because this was my first visit to Ukraine.

Location:

The location is the best thing about Hotel Khreshatyk.

Hotel Khreshatyk is on Khreshatyk Street which is the main street in Kiev. It is basically the Sunset Blvd., in Los Angeles, Ocean Drive of Miami Beach, or the Fifth Ave. in New York.

You can see Midan Nezalehnosti Square from your room.

While Hotel Khreshatyk is definitely in a good location for life and activity, you will not be next to a lot of the beautiful churches, cathedrals, and monuments.

You will need an Uber to get to:

St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery

Language

If you’ve already done research on what language Ukrainians speak, you may have heard that Ukrainians speak Ukrainian and English.

No and No.

At least in Kiev, Ukrainians speak Russian, and few speak English. I was really worried that the Russian I knew would be useless in Ukraine but literally, everyone I ran into spoke Russian.

However, everyone at Hotel Khreshatyk speaks English. The check-in desk, bell staff, maids, and security all speak English.

You will feel like you’re in the U.S. while staying at the Hotel Khreshatyk. Moreover, you’ll probably hear others speaking English.

Hotel Khreshatyk is known for foreigners staying there so the staff is used to Americans.

At the two restaurants at the hotel, the menus were in English and the waitresses spoke English.

Entertainment:

Kiev, Ukraine is known to have some great nightlife and it lives up to that reputation.

Buda Bar

Connected to Hotel Khreshatyk is the world famous Budda Bar. There are Budda Bars all over the world, including one I went to in Prague, Czech but the one in Kiev is great. It’s your basic bar lounge with interesting decor, but it’s the beautiful Ukrainian crowd that makes it a great place.

Arena City, which I mentioned in the article: Kiev, Ukraine Nightlife is within walking distance from Hotel Khreshatyk.

The Property and Room:

Hotel Khreshatyk is not a huge mega 5-Star hotel, nor is it a small bed and breakfast. It feels like the W hotels in the U.S.

The rooms are nice and basically what you will find in any American hotel.

Also, I mentioned in the article: Are Prague, Krakow, and Kiev Safe, I was told that you can’t drink the water. Since water bottles were placed everywhere, I didn’t test it, and you shouldn’t either.

The Russian Language

Besides the great location, the next best thing about Hotel Khreshatyk is that everyone speaks English. With that said, once you leave the hotel, you should know how to say a few Russian words.

Ukrainians will appreciate you saying Hello, Good morning, thank you, please, goodbye.

If you want to learn Russian (or any other language for that matter) I’ve been using Pimsleur to learn. It is the best teaching program I’ve found after trying YouTube videos, and Duolingo.

In summary, Hotel Khreshatyk is a great hotel if you are visiting Kiev, Ukraine.
